Some decisions before begin:
- 5.5meter long
- 36cm chine width
- 46cm beam
- under 15kg weight
- skeg and flat racing type rudder
- 3mm Plywood
sibusibu is 170cm tall and 62kg.

Workbench is adjusted to be flat and level. |
 |
Bottom panel.
Jointed with scarf.
Keel side edge is straight.
Chine side curve is impossible to explain.
I don't have the plan.
I cut the curve as I like.
You also draw the curve as you like
.
There is one plan as a example in SEA
KAYAKER magazine FALL1994VOL.11 NO.2 page42.
This is very helphul.
|
 |
Bottom with some temporary beams and a bulkhead.
Plywood for side is hung from the ceiling.
This is a good idea.
Copy the chine curve of the bottom to inside
of side panel.
|
 |
After cutting the chine curve of side panel,
confirm and adjust it. |
 |
After shaping gunwale, attach a 15mm x 15mm
scantling to the gunwale.
Install fore and aft bulkheads.
Glue with fiberglass tape inside of keel
and both chines. |
 |
Install the skegbox and waterpipe for rudder
shaft. |
 |
Deck beam is three layer of plywood. |
 |
Glue the deck with epoxy and stainless steel
screw. |
 |
Attach the corming side panel. |
 |
Corming spacer is five layer of plywood.
Glue these with epoxy.
Toothpick is useful to align these during
glueing.
|
 |
Next, attach corming flange and shape it.
Almost all complicated works are over.
The remainder rudder control,skeg control,seat,hatch
and painting are not so difficult.
Aft hatch is tupperware. this is light, good
seal and cheap. |

Although I like sea kayaking, I often paddle
a racing kayak.
Paddling racing kayaks is good way to learn
the forward stroke. |
